The University of Adelaide Centre for the Subatomic Structure of Matter (CSSM) has an available position for a postdoctoral research associate to work in the area of nuclear structure for a period of 2 years commencing in 2023. The ARC Grant-Funded Researcher (A) will be supported within the CSSM.

The position will focus on studies of nuclear structure, primarily using the energy density functional derived using the quark-meson coupling model. This will include a systematic study of nuclear properties across the periodic table, with a particular focus on the super-heavy region. The work is supported by funding from a Discovery Project awarded to Professor Anthony Thomas by the Australian Research Council titled ‘A New Approach to the Structure of Atomic Nuclei’. There will be opportunities to collaborate with our Partner Investigator, Professor Pierre Guichon, as well as to engage in collaborative work with other members of the research group within CSSM.

To be successful you will need: • PhD or equivalent degree (or thesis submitted) in theoretical nuclear physics. • A commitment to research excellence in theoretical nuclear physics and a demonstrated publication track record in leading scientific journals. • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and to work effectively as a member of a research team. • Very good verbal, written, communication, interpersonal, organisational and time management skills. • Advanced computational skills, with demonstrated ability to use those skills in the context of nuclear structure.
