The Department of Physics in The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible Postdoctoral Research Scholar position beginning in Fall 2023. This is a fixed-term, fiscal year (twelve month) appointment with no tenure implications, but with the possibility of extension annually based on satisfactory performance and funding availability. Candidates must be within five years from receipt of their doctoral degree. The Photoemission and Bright Beams Lab led by Prof. Karkare at ASU is seeking to hire a postdoctoral research associate to work on the development of spin-polarized electron sources for particle accelerator applications. The candidate will be stationed at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Long Island, Upton NY and will be co-supervised by Dr. Luca Cultrera in the Instrumentation Division at Brookhaven National Lab.

Successful candidates will be a part of a multi-institutional team comprised of Arizona State University, State University of New York, Albany and Brookhaven National Lab, funded by the Department of Energy, High Energy Physics program to develop III-Nitride and other robust spin-polarized photocathode technologies. The candidate will be expected to perform polarization measurements and other photoemission characterization of various III-Nitride and other materials heterostructures and actively participate in designing heterostructures for optimized spin-polarization and photoemission performance. Minimum Qualifications: • A Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in experimental physics, material science, electrical engineering, chemistry or a related discipline by the time of the appointment. • Evidence of effectively communicating research through conference presentations and/or journal papers. • Commitment to working with diverse faculty, staff, students, and communities, and to advancing the ASU Charter.

Desired Qualifications: • Expertise in handling and design of ultra-high-vacuum systems. • Experience in materials growth, characterization and surface diagnostics. • Experience in electron beam optics and beam diagnostics. • Experience in photoemission spectroscopy. • Experience in measurements of spin-polarization. • Experience in modeling transport in semiconductor devices

To apply, please submit the following materials electronically using this link: http://apply.interfolio.com/130266 1.) a cover letter; 2.) a current curriculum vitae with publication list; 3.) List and contacts of 3 recommenders 4.) A detailed summary of research experience and interests
