Position Description

As a computing researcher, you will be primarily responsible for talking to biological neurons in vitro and training them to do different tasks. You will research "how" and "why" neurons process information, make decisions, and how to influence them to do intended tasks.

The context of training and computing with biological neurons is very new and different. It demands you to put all your knowledge and experience in a context that no one else in the world has and come up with novel and unique ideas every day. You will not have a standard rulebook to follow, so please apply only if you can handle ambiguity and are willing to put in the necessary hours in a startup environment.

Training and computing with human neurons is very new and has a lot of potential, so if it works out, we will literally start a new wave of computing. It will be a long ride, but a ride worth taking!

Key Qualifications:

Deep knowledge about how biological neurons have been trained before, and new ideas on how to train them Prior knowledge and experience in encoding and decoding information from neurons Prior experience dealing with custom hardware, FPGAs, and using/writing APIs to communicate with the hardware Like to live in the intersection of biology, hardware, and coding Ability to prioritize and conduct experiments efficiently within resource and time constraints Passion for the idea, potential, and belief that computing with neurons is the future

Nice to have: experience with spiking neural networks and neuromorphic architectures; deep knowledge about our brain and how it makes decisions; coding reinforcement learning algorithms/feedback systems and simulators; electrical/electronics background with specialization in neural networks/mixed/analog signals and research papers demonstrating expertise in any of the above areas.

Salary: $90k - $120k + stock + benefits

Most importantly, you should be willing to play games against neurons. You won’t win, but it will be fun!
