Position Description

Lecturer, Kilachand Honors College at Boston University

Boston University’s Kilachand Honors College invites applications for a full-time Lecturer, for an initial 3-year term with the possibility of renewal and promotion. We seek candidates with significant experience in teaching writing to undergraduate students, and who have a demonstrable commitment to inclusive and innovative pedagogy. A primary component of this position will involve teaching sections of Kilachand Honors College’s Studio I and II, which are writing-intensive first-year 2-credit undergraduate courses. In the first semester, students practice reading carefully, crafting arguments, and revising writing while exploring challenging texts and co-curricular events. In the second semester, students write and revise a research paper on a topic of students’ choosing. The Lecturer will also oversee the Studio teaching team, including mentoring our postdoctoral Studio instructors and collaborating on curricular innovations, such as non-traditional grading and experiential learning. Given this, we seek applicants with experience mentoring or advising. Opportunities to teach other courses across the Kilachand curriculum may also be available based on staffing needs. Kilachand Honors College is a community whose members share a commitment to addressing key challenges in our world and applying academic and creative endeavors toward positively affecting society, and thus we are seeking a faculty member who shares this orientation. Finally, we seek candidates who are invested in engaging fully in our living-learning community, as demonstrated by participation in the wide range of student-centered events (e.g., college programming) and a commitment to launching new student-focused initiatives. We welcome candidates who are prepared to collaborate around pedagogical challenges, such as approaches to AI, and propose new ways to deepen students’ learning in reading, writing, and research, in or outside of the classroom. We strongly encourage candidates from historically marginalized groups to apply.
