CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.

 

In this position you will contribute to developing classical and quantum machine learning algorithms for molecular design software.  

Original research in related topics will also be supported. 

Your duties will include:

  • Carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes. 
  • Recognise and exploit opportunities for innovation and the generation of new theoretical perspectives, and progress opportunities for the further development or creation of new lines of research.
  • Utilise design thinking methodology to plan and prepare research proposals, and apply non-academic impact methodology to research projects.
  • Carry out research investigations requiring originality, creativity and innovation.

 

Location:  Clayton, Victoria

Salary: AU$92k - AU$101k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

Tenure:  Specified term of 3 years

To be considered you will need:

  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as computational physics, computational chemistry and/or computer science. Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (full-time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience.
  • A background in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
  • Operational knowledge of Python programming language required with good knowledge of either PyTorch and/or TensorFlow frameworks.
  • Tangential knowledge of quantum chemistry, computational chemistry and/or molecular physics.
  • High level written and oral communication skills and ability to work within a team.
