It also shares faculty with Cornell Tech and is a partner in the department of Computational Biology. The college is known for bold new ideas expressed in innovative computing and information technologies, groundbreaking textbooks, inspiring curricula, imaginative experiments, and entrepreneurial and commercial impact. More than twelve percent of the Cornell undergraduate student body is a CIS major, and 76% of all undergraduates on the Ithaca campus take at least one CIS course during their time at Cornell. Bowers CIS has more than 100 faculty and graduated 1100 students in 2023 across undergraduates, Master’s and PhD students.
MTEI currently employs a full time Director, an Administrative Assistant, and several Faculty Teaching Fellows who have 10% appointments in MTEI (while full time teaching in departments). In addition, MTEI affiliated Faculty Research Fellows are fully embedded in engineering departments as tenure track faculty with research specialization in engineering education topics.
The Associate Director will contribute to MTEI programs and work with faculty on improving and innovating in teaching across the departments in both colleges. Tasks will include a mix of writing teaching tips, leading workshops, observing classes and providing pointers to faculty, reviewing student course feedback to support course improvements, and working with faculty on course design or redesign efforts. MTEI especially works with new faculty to ensure they have a strong start to teaching. The Associate Director and the instructors that will use MTEI as a resource will be teaching a highly diverse student population so inclusive teaching is essential.
Depending on program needs, the role might include work on special projects and data gathering of mutual interest to the Assoc. Director and MTEI.
