The Associate in Research will be leading a team of 4 undergraduate students to collect data in support of research investigating the relationships between bryophyte populations and stream health. Full-day fieldwork within streams to include driving/hiking to field sites, collecting soil and water samples, surveying stream habitat. The associate will also complete sample processing, which will include filtering, drying, and weighing samples, identifying aquatic insects, and performing chemical analyses on instruments. This associate is expected to troubleshoot any issues that arise in the field, including issues with equipment, and ensuring team safety. This position requires a minimum degree of a BS/BA. Field Work (40%): travel to and from field sites and collecting specimens. This includes collection of insect samples, collection of water samples, collection of plant samples, and leading stream release experiments, as well as gathering and returning necessary equipment. Data analysis and organization (50%): analyzing field samples, including running water samples on specialized equipment, organizing data and completing quality control of data inputs, and ensuring appropriate storage of samples. Helping manage the field site (10%): This may include communicating field site supplies needed, supervising undergrads, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
