Position Description

Duke University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to conduct research under the supervision of Professor Michael Reiter in the Department of Computer Science. The position will specifically support a federally funded project, the Center for Distributed Confidential Computing.

The Center for Distributed Confidential Computing is a collaboration among researchers at Duke University, Indiana University, Carnegie Mellon University, Purdue University, The Ohio State University, Yale University, and Spelman College.

The Postdoctoral Associate will lead research projects within the center and assist Professor Reiter in supervising graduate and undergraduate student researchers involved in the project. The individual will also take leadership roles in integrating research results into working prototype systems that demonstrate center outcomes and will help coordinate center-associated tasks being conducted with other participating universities.

Research projects will focus on software technologies to implement and assure the security of sensitive data in distributed computations. This work will leverage trusted execution environments for node-level protection while addressing potential information leakage through incorrect policy enforcement or implementation attributes, such as side channels.

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field by the start date and will have a strong track record of scientific publication in one or more of the following areas:

• Distributed computing
• Cryptographic multi-party computation
• Privacy
• Formal methods
• Side channels
• Trusted execution environments

The anticipated supervisor for this position is Professor Michael Reiter. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
