The Department of Classical Studies at Duke University seeks to appoint a one-year instructor position in Classical Archaeology. We seek candidates with demonstrated teaching excellence in the archaeology of Greece, Rome, and the broader Mediterranean. The teaching load is 5 courses for the year, two courses in the Fall semester and three in the spring. In the Fall, the successful candidate will teach an entry-level survey of Mediterranean archaeology, (CLST 139) “Seven Wonders: Monuments and Cultures of the Ancient Mediterranean.” And a graduate/undergraduate seminar on a topic of their own choosing in the area of Greek Archaeology, (CLST 590S-1) “Special Topics in Greek Archaeology.” For the Spring, the successful candidate will teach 3 courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels chosen in consultation with the department and balancing departmental needs and the candidates’ own specialties. The candidate will also prepare and evaluate our graduate archaeology preliminary exam for additional compensation.
