The Duke Global Health Innovation Center (Duke GHIC), and its partner organization, Innovations in Healthcare (IiH), have a shared vision of a world where innovation improves health for all. Duke GHIC is a center within Duke University, linking health innovation, health policy, and global health efforts across Duke to improve health. Duke GHIC partners closely with Innovations in Healthcare, a Duke-affiliated non-profit that works with over 100 healthcare innovators in more than 90 countries as well as public and private sector organizations to scale the impact of the world’s leading innovations. Together, IiH and Duke GHIC improve access to quality, affordable healthcare worldwide and bring best-in-class capabilities in curating, scaling, and studying health innovations around the world while providing an interface to experts and students across the university.Duke GHIC is part of the Duke Global Health Institute, which brings together knowledge and resources from across Duke to address the most important global health issues of our time, and collaborates closely with the Duke-Margolis Institute for Health Policy, which catalyzes Duke University's leading capabilities including interdisciplinary academic research and capacity for education and engagement, to inform policy making and implementation for better health and healthcare.
Occupational Summary
Duke GHIC and IiH seek a strategic, collaborative, and insightful Senior Manager, Research and Programs to advance our health innovation and policy research agenda.
The preferred location for this role is Durham, NC, Washington, DC, or Nairobi, Kenya. Some duties of this role can be performed at home if the candidate can maintain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet service and can work collaboratively with others using a variety of technologies and tools, and has time zone flexibility (if based in Nairobi). The Senior Manager, Research and Programs will report to the Assistant Director, Research and Programs and will work with all members of the team providing leadership and expertise in conducting complex research activities, including planning, organizing, and communicating on research studies related to global health innovation and health equity on behalf of Duke GHIC and IiH.
We are seeking individuals who have experience impacting change in the following organizational goal areas:
• Scaling Impact of Integrated Innovations: supporting the scale-up of innovations that lead to whole-person, integrated delivery systems
• Accelerating End-to-End Access to Biomedical Innovation: strengthening the evidence base for equitable and sustainable global access to biomedical innovations (e.g. vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics, etc.) and enabling impactful access to health programs across life sciences organizations
• Empowering Health Leaders: empowering health leaders and change agents to translate insights into changes in policy and decisions; engaging diverse learners, expanding professional education, and integrating capacity-strengthening into programs

Work Performed
Research Design, Implementation, and Management – 85%
• Manage knowledge and research initiatives for a portfolio of programs, including quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, data quality assurance, evidence generation and sense making, to ensure successful execution
• Develop and implement all aspects of research project lifecycle—initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout—to ensure that the project is successfully executed
• Work internally and externally to assemble appropriate personnel for program teams, including research analysts, students, Duke faculty, and others
• Provide intellectual contributions to organizational research and policy activities
• Manage, undertake, and support the development of multiple timely, high-visibility knowledge product outputs, including manuscripts, policy analyses, reports, articles, white papers, case studies, presentations, and blogs
• Plan and lead international site visits and workshops
• Oversee ethical approvals, registrations, and compliance of studies involving human subjects research and data, including contributing to study protocols and managing IRB submissions, renewals, and amendments; responsibility for maintaining best practices for data management, quality, and security
• Provide oversight of processes associated with the preparation and coordination of client site visits and client deliverables, including development of clear meeting objectives and strategies, identification of attendees, preparation of agendas, and logistical arrangements
Strategy & Business Development - 15%
• Travel to and represent Duke GHIC and IiH at international and domestic events and conferences, to share our work and learn about relevant activities in the field to inform our research agenda and organizational priorities
• Collaboratively design strategies and approaches, via concept notes and proposals, that build on Duke GHIC/IiH’s capabilities and areas of expertise for new products, service lines, and solutions that meet the needs of global funders and clients
• Complete research in specific industry sectors, therapeutic areas, markets, competitors, and regulatory agencies
• Coordinate and participate in meetings with faculty and staff to determine research priorities and objectives

Preferred Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training:
• Master's degree in a related field is required (e.g., MPH, MPP, or other relevant Master’s degree)
Experience:
• A minimum of two years' experience, preferably with a highly profiled health stakeholder, with a track record of contributing to large, complex research and/or policy programs and translating research outputs into impact
• Demonstrated record of contributing to the design and implementation of large scale or complex mixed-methods research
• Demonstrated record of publishing research outputs as a primary author, including but not limited to, manuscripts, white papers, case studies, blogs, etc.
• Demonstrated ability to write for multiple audiences, including academics, policy makers, and advocates• Strongly prefer experience in the health sector, product development and delivery, health innovation, health policy, health systems strengthening, and/or health security• Strongly prefer global experience, particularly in low- and middle-income countries
Skills:
· Exceptional writing and presentation skills.Extensive research skills.· Excellent interpersonal skills and experience effectively interfacing with all levels of management, and across cultures; exercise diplomacy, tact, professionalism, responsiveness, a high degree of flexibility, to resolve concerns in a fair and equitable manner;
