Position Description
The MIT Center for Theoretical Physics hopes to have an opening for one or more postdoctoral positions in high-energy theory to begin September 1, 2025. Current faculty in the CTP are: Soonwon Choi, William Detmold, Netta Engelhardt, Edward Farhi, Jeffrey Goldstone, Alan Guth, Daniel Harlow, Aram Harrow, Mikhail Ivanov, Robert Jaffe, David Kaiser, Hong Liu, John Negele, Krishna Rajagopal, Shu-Heng Shao, Phiala Shanahan, Tracy Slatyer, Iain Stewart, Washington Taylor, Jesse Thaler, Frank Wilczek, and Barton Zwiebach. The interests of our group cover all areas of particle physics, phenomenology, cosmology, astroparticle physics, quantum field theory, quantum information, quantum gravity, string theory, and research connecting high energy physics, condensed matter physics, mathematics, and other related areas. Apply to the position at:http://www.academicjobsonline.org/. Applications should include a CV, a statement of research interests, a list of publications, and the names of three senior physicists who will provide letters of recommendation. There are also postdoctoral positions available in the CTP in quantum information science / quantum computing (https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/28430) and nuclear theory at: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/28428. If your research aligns with more than one of these areas, or if you are unsure whether your research fits the description for a given position, we encourage you to apply for all CTP positions which might be relevant. The CTP seeks a broad and diverse applicant pool, and welcomes applications from candidates at the intersections of (sub)fields. For full consideration, applications should be received by 11.59pm US Eastern time on November 15, 2024, including all letters of recommendation. The application will request that you identify which faculty have research interests that are closest to your own; this is a required question, and if you do not answer it then your application will be considered incomplete. Note to prospective applicants: acceptance deadlines for CTP postdoctoral offers in the 2024-25 hiring cycle will depend on circumstances and subfield, with an earliest possible deadline of January 15, 2025 (link: https://sites.google.com/view/stringydotorg/interim-postdoc-accord). We expect that for a substantial fraction of postdoc offers made in the upcoming cycle, the deadline can be sufficiently flexible to accommodate differing deadlines from other institutions/fellowships. In particular, we note that many institutions in our field have committed to an earliest possible deadline of February 15, 2025 [see accord here], and we anticipate that a significant fraction of CTP postdoc offers will use that deadline. Please contact us with any further questions. MIT is an equal employment opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, ancestry, or national or ethnic origin. MIT’s full policy on Nondiscrimination can be found here. Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check, including verifying any finding of misconduct (or pending investigation) from prior employers.Application Materials Required:
