The Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics invites applications for a full-time appointment in Engineering Science, at the rank of Lecturer, starting in August, 2021.  The Engineering Science major is an exciting new addition to the College, as it seeks to provide the best of broad engineering methods within a liberal arts environment. This is the first hire in the major, and the College seeks a candidate with energetic vision and creative thought.

Lecturer positions are renewable annually contingent on good performance and the needs of the College.  A Master’s Degree or higher in Engineering (including sub-fields), Engineering Education, or a closely-related field is required. A successful candidate must have a strong interest in teaching a wide range of undergraduate science and engineering-related courses in a liberal arts setting, in teaching within the college’s Intellectual Inquiry (INQ) curriculum, in mentoring and facilitating a variety of experiential learning opportunities, and in leading assessment efforts towards ABET accreditation. Evidence of potential for highly effective classroom teaching is required; the normal teaching load is seven courses per year, the salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Roanoke College is a nationally ranked residential liberal arts college affiliated with the Lutheran Church (ELCA), located in the beautiful Roanoke Valley of Virginia.  A Phi Beta Kappa institution, Roanoke College is an equal opportunity employer and actively seeks diversity among its faculty, staff, and students.  Women and members of under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply.  We also seek candidates with interests in mentoring under-represented students, diversifying curricular offerings, or sponsoring diverse community engagement.

To apply, please submit a cover letter of application, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, and unofficial copies of graduate and undergraduate transcripts. In addition, please arrange for three letters of recommendation (at least one must directly address teaching) to be submitted.  Applicants are asked to address their potential contributions in support of a diverse community, as well as any experience with program coordination in engineering or engineering science, in their cover letters. Materials should be addressed to Dr. Daniel Robb, Chair of the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics at Roanoke College.

Review of applications will begin February 15, 2021.  All completed applications received by that date will be given full consideration, and applications may be considered on a rolling basis that are received after that deadline. Questions about the position may be sent, through email, to the Department Chairperson at robb@roanoke.edu.
