Position Description:

Lecturer Positions in Anthropology

The Stanford Department of Anthropology invites applications for multiple lecturer positions to teach for the department in 2027. These positions involve teaching for the department in either Winter or Spring quarter 2027 at either 50% FTE (where one would teach one course) or 100% FTE (where one would teach two courses). The salary is adjusted based on number of courses taught. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or an equivalent qualification.

The primary role of these lectureships is to teach courses that attract a broad student population to the field of Anthropology. The course should include the following:

Broad Appeal: Aim for a course topic that resonates with both anthropology majors and non-majors.
Interdisciplinary Focus: Blend anthropology with pre-professional disciplines such as Law, Engineering, Computer Science, Environment, and Medicine.
Course Structure: Proposals could be a fun and innovative 1-unit course targeting very high enrollment, a 3-unit lower-division introductory course, or a 5-unit upper-division course that offers an in-depth exploration of specialized topics.

The Lecturer should be knowledgeable in curriculum and course design, including effective pedagogy and equitable assessment. In addition to instruction, the Lecturer will be responsible for holding office hours and mentoring students.

The expected base pay range for this position is $17,500 - $27,500.
