Position Description

The Simons Collaboration on the Physics of Learning and Neural Computation is searching for postdoctoral fellows at Stanford to perform scientific research on AI, working in the research groups of collaboration PIs Surya Ganguli and Eva Silverstein. Fellows can take advantage of a vibrant physics, neuroscience, and computer science community at Stanford and will actively participate in the activities of the broader Simons Collaboration spanning multiple institutions, including potential collaborations with other PIs and industry affiliates within the collaboration. The research will involve a developing a deeper scientific understanding of artificial intelligence through combined theory and numerical experiments. We aim to employ and develop powerful tools for complex systems analysis from physics, mathematics, computer science, neuroscience, and statistics to understand how large neural networks learn, compute, scale, reason, and imagine. By studying AI as a complex physical system, we aim to break AI out of its black box.

On your Research statement, please review your past research accomplishments, and describe your future research directions. Feel free to include the names of potential collaborators within the Simons Collaboration you would like to work with.
