Position Description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University is seeking applications for a part-time, academic professional track (non-tenure) position at the rank of Visiting Lecturer with 75% effort for the fall 2026 semester. This is a one-semester visiting position with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026, for the 2026-2027 academic year with a possibility of renewal beyond that period. Teaching responsibilities will include instruction, including lecture and laboratory instruction, at the undergraduate level in physics. Faculty are responsible for teaching and overseeing their own instructional labs, with laboratory technicians providing support for setup and materials procurement. The selected candidate, while assigned wholly to the McAllen campus, will collaborate with faculty within the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the College of Arts and Sciences at both the McAllen and College Station campuses, engaging in cross-campus efforts that support curricular alignment, instructional continuity, and student success. In addition to teaching, the successful applicant will have a strong commitment to undergraduate physics education and student success. All appointees are expected to be committed to teaching of the highest quality. The successful applicant will be based at the Texas A&M University Higher Education Center (HECM) at McAllen in south Texas. This position plays a key role in supporting the continued growth of the educational programs at the HECM and in providing physics coursework to students completing their full four-year degree in McAllen. Located in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley, the Texas A&M University Higher Education Center McAllen (HECM) offers the chance to live and work in one of Texas’s fastest-growing and most dynamic regions. As a teaching-focused campus, HECM emphasizes high-quality instruction and values faculty who are passionate about student success. Serving a student body that is majority first-generation with an average student-to-faculty ratio of about 12:1 across most majors, faculty here enjoy close student engagement and meaningful opportunities for impact. Ph.D. in physics or a related field is required. Applications must be submitted online at https://apply.interfolio.com/184743. All applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae (including full publication list), and a personal statement, to include philosophy and plans for teaching, research, and service, as applicable, and arrange for two confidential letters of recommendation to be submitted online. Application review will begin May 15, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled.
