The High-Energy Physics (HEP) Group at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in experimental HEP to be associated with the ATLAS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider.

The Illinois ATLAS Group is broadly focused on searches for physics beyond the standard model and is actively involved in Run 3 operations and Phase-II upgrades to the ATLAS trigger system. The successful candidate is expected to play a leading role in ATLAS data analysis and our Phase-II upgrade activities.

The Illinois HEP Group has active programs in theoretical, computational, observational, and experimental cosmology, astrophysics, and particle physics and is growing significantly in these areas. The University of Illinois is a recognized leader in high-performance computing, hosting the National Center for Supercomputing Applications and a Tier-2 Computing Center used for processing, simulating and analyzing data from the ATLAS experiment.

Our ATLAS group is actively involved in several interdisciplinary centers and institutes that strengthen our HEP research and broaden its impact, including the Illinois Center for Advanced Study of the Universe, the Center for Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation, and the NSF-funded Accelerated AI Algorithms for Data Driven Discovery (A3D3). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate within these centers and institutes, particularly in the use of AI to maximize discovery potential in particle physics.

Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in particle physics by the time of appointment. Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae including a list of publications, 3-page statement of research interests, and arrange to have three letters of reference uploaded through AcademicJobsOnline. Inquiries may be addressed to Prof. Benjamin Hooberman (benhoob@illinois.edu).

Applications received by May 15, 2023 will receive full consideration. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
