The Department of Physics is an instructional and research department within the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) that supports significant research activities in a wide range of fields in the physics discipline. The Department includes 29 teaching faculty, as well as emeritus faculty, research staff, and 5 professional/administrative staff. The department enrolls approximately 2,000 students per term, 200 undergraduate majors, and 95 doctoral students. The University of Oregon is one of only two Pacific Northwest members of the Association of American Universities and holds the distinction of a "very high research activity" ranking in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
