The University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Computer Sciences is one of the oldest and most respected CS departments in the United States, having begun in the early 1960s as the Department of Numerical Analysis and becoming the Department of Computer Sciences in 1964. For over 20 years, UW-Madison has been one of the top five U.S. universities for research expenditures.
