Description:    

The new MIT Institute for Foundations of Data Science (MIFODS), funded by the National Science Foundation TRIPODS program, is announcing two competitive postdoctoral fellowships. MIFODS is an interdisciplinary entity across the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL), and the Institute for Data Systems and Society (IDSS) at MIT. It provides a structured environment for exploring interdisciplinary research spanning Mathematics, Statistics, and Theoretical Computer Science. 

Qualified candidates will have interest in the aforementioned three areas, with expertise in at least one of them. Duties include performing independent, interdisciplinary research in collaboration with any of the MIFODS members, as well as leading activities within MIFODS. 

More information is available at  mifods.mit.edu. This fellowship is a one-year appointment beginning on July 2018 or a later mutually agreed upon date, with the possibility of renewal for a second year based upon satisfactory performance.

Job requirements:
  • Ph.D. (expected or obtained) in Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research, Economics, Mathematics or a related field;
  • Strong analytical and written communication skills, 
  • Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment and 
  • Commitment to participating in MIFODS activities.
