Novo
Nordisk Foundation Prize Postdoctoral Fellowships in Theoretical Physics The Niels Bohr
International Academy (NBIA) invites applications for a newly
established Novo Nordisk Foundation Prize Postdoctoral
Fellowship Programme as part of a vigorous campaign to expand into new
research areas and to strengthen on-going programs. Outstanding
candidates in all areas of Theoretical Physics are encouraged to apply.
Fellows will be appointed for a period of 3 years and will receive generous
funds for travel and computing. We
are seeking internationally outstanding and highly motivated individuals who are
driven to pursue their own research programs and eager to interact with current
NBIA members. The ideal candidate will play a leading role by contributing to
the intellectual atmosphere of the NBIA and will have the opportunity to guide
more junior fellows, participate in outreach activities, and organize
international meetings and PhD schools. The Niels Bohr International Academy, hosted by the Niels Bohr Institute, strives to attract the best and the brightest by providing the environment to enable curiosity-driven breakthrough research in the physical sciences and mathematics. The Academy hosts numerous workshops, symposia, and PhD-schools every year as well as a number of outreach activities, including an annual series of public lectures. Current research areas at NBIA
include: Theoretical
Astrophysics – encompassing plasma astrophysics, astrophysical
dynamics and astrophysical fluid/magnetohydro-dynamics, including accretion
onto compact objects, star and planet formation, as well as the inter-stellar
and intra-cluster media. Astroparticle
Physics and Neutrino Astrophysics – focusing on
the nature of weakly interacting elementary particles in the framework of
multi-messenger astrophysics to probe the engines behind the most energetic
transients in our Universe, such as core-collapse supernovae, compact binary mergers,
and extreme cosmic accelerators. Particle Physics and
Cosmology – covering most areas of quantum field theory,
including scattering amplitudes, general relativity from amplitudes, particle physics phenomenology, cosmology, and extensions of the
Standard Model in terms of effective field theory. Condensed Matter
Physics – spanning quantum condensed matter theory, including
quantum dynamics, topological and hybrid systems, strongly correlated systems,
non-equilibrium phases, and Floquet engineering. The group collaborates closely
with experimentalists in the Center for Quantum
Devices. Applicants
are requested to express their interest by submitting their applications via
this website (including a cover letter, CV, publication list, a research
statement, and three letters of recommendation). In order to receive full
consideration, complete applications should be received by December 1st, 2018.
The preferred starting date is September 2019 and is flexible within reason. Postdoctoral
Fellows at the Niels Bohr International Academy receive a competitive salary
(including pension). Generous parental leave, state-subsidized child care, 6 weeks
of paid vacation, pension contribution, and full medical care are available to
employees in Denmark. Copenhagen is a beautiful, family-friendly city with a
large international community, a lively and diverse cultural scene, and a very
high quality of life. Most international researchers are eligible for a
favorable tax scheme.
The University of
Copenhagen wishes to reflect the diversity of society and
welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal
background. |
