Description:    

The Theory Department of TRIUMF, Canada's particle accelerator centre, is currently accepting applications for the Richard E. Taylor Postdoctoral Fellow, a joint postdoctoral appointment with the Institute for Nuclear Theory (INT) at the University of Washington. This joint fellowship is intended to span a 4-year term, with 2 years located at each institute. The fellow will engage in forefront research in nuclear theory and related areas, and will foster research collaboration between TRIUMF and INT. The fellow will be expected to keep abreast of the advancement in the field of theoretical nuclear physics, act as an expert for experimenters using TRIUMF facilities such as ISAC and ARIEL, and provide guidance to the laboratory’s scientific program. The fellow will be responsible for:

• Carrying out research and publishing in pre-eminent scientific journals
• Participating in local seminars and schools, and representing TRIUMF and INT at international conferences
• Providing co-supervision and guidance to undergraduate and graduate students

Applicants must demonstrate broad knowledge of theoretical physics tools, methods and literature, and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Qualifications include a PhD in nuclear physics, awarded within the past 3 years, combined with an outstanding record of publication and public presentations. While not required, expertise in techniques applicable to nuclear structure and dynamics, ab initio approaches, and nuclear astrophysics would be a definite asset.
