Integrated Photonics Engineer (Full-Time) Xanadu – Toronto, ON

Summary of Position and Responsibilities

The selected candidates will be responsible for designing and implementing the photonic integrated circuits which form the core of our quantum computation platform. They will work closely with our established team of engineers and physicists to design new individual components and full-scale circuits. They will model and simulate these designs before fabrication, and interact with our fabrication partners to identify and develop the best available processes and material platforms for our needs, from mask layout and fabrication through to packaging and testing. There will be a strong focus on component and circuit optimization for minimizing losses, cross-talk, power consumption, footprint, and other figures of merit.

Basic Qualifications and Experience

▪ PhD in engineering, physics, or a related relevant discipline, with specialization in integrated photonics ▪ 1+ years additional experience in industry, government, or academic labs ▪ Experience in designing passive and active photonic components ▪ Experience in laying out complex mask files for photonic circuits ▪ Experience with multiple material platforms

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

▪ 3+ years experience in industry designing production-quality devices ▪ Experience with on-chip nonlinear optics ▪ Basic familiarity with quantum optics ▪ Experience designing thermo-optic devices and working with integrated detectors ▪ Experience with silicon nitride waveguides and components ▪ Experience with full-scale photonic systems design, from component-level through to packaging

Required Knowledge and Skills

▪ Experienced with integrated photonic layout software like Phoenix, IPKISS, etc. ▪ Experienced with photonic simulation packages like Lumerical ▪ Strong understanding of fundamental optics theory ▪ Self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced team environment ▪ Strong communication and written skills
