Lecturer of Japanese (Job# 12361) Arizona State University School of International Letters and Cultures

The School of International Letters & Cultures at Arizona State University invites applications for one Lecturer position in Japanese. The successful candidate will be expected to teach all levels of Japanese language as required (1st through 4th year), and work closely with the program coordinator to prepare syllabi, lectures and class materials, exams, textbook orders, and class assignments. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible appointment made on an academic year basis (Aug 16 - May 15). Subsequent annual renewal is possible contingent upon satisfactory performance, the needs of the unit, availability of resources, and sufficient enrollment in assigned courses. Anticipated start date is August 2018.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Japanese linguistics, by time of appointment, second-language pedagogy or related field and native/near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English. Evidence of successful Japanese Language teaching at the post-secondary level.

Desired Qualifications: • Ph.D. or ABD in Japanese language pedagogy, applied linguistics, Japanese linguistics or related field by time of appointment • At least three years of experience teaching all levels of Japanese language courses (1st through 4th year Japanese) • Demonstrated proficiency in online teaching and/or appropriate technologies in language instruction • Experience with coordinating a study abroad program in Japan • A strong potential for success in serving the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities.
