Applications are invited for the following post-doctoral position at the Mandelstam Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.
* Starting in October 2018, we have a two year post-doctoral appointment in condensed matter theory supported by the National Institute for Theoretical Physics.
Applicants must have a track record of accomplishment and independence in their research. Preference will be given to candidates interested in low-dimensional systems, quantum impurities, quantum optics, or many-body physics. The successful candidate will however have freedom to pursue their own research interests, and the Institute offers scope for collaborations across fields. Members of the Mandelstam Institute work on topics in condensed matter theory, string theory, quantum field theory, particle phenomenology, and theoretical cosmology. Current members are Alan Cornell, Robert de Mello Koch, Kevin Goldstein, Shinji Hirano, Vishnu Jejjala, Daniel Joubert, Jong Soo Kim, Mukesh Kumar, João Rodrigues, and Izak Snyman.
We can apply for additional funding to extend the term of the fellowship, but this is not guaranteed. A post-doc can expect a reasonable stipend for research related travel in addition to airfare to Johannesburg on starting.
We will evaluate candidates as they apply. |
