The Knowlton School and the City and Regional Planning section is actively engaged in these initiatives. The City and Regional Planning (CRP) Section of the Knowlton School at The Ohio State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenured position at the advanced Associate or Full Professor rank that will serve as the Section Head of City and Regional Planning. The anticipated start date is Autumn of 2019.

The City and Regional Planning section is a fiscally healthy and exciting environment with vibrant new faculty (nine out of 14 faculty hired within the past six years). We have a clearly defined strategic plan and vision for the future, one that is focused on creating an unsurpassed learning environment for students at all levels. Our student body consists of 100 bachelors, 70 masters and 25 PhD students in a given year. The Bachelor of Science City and Regional Planning (BSCRP) and Masters in City and Regional Planning (MCRP) programs are both accredited, with the most recent successful reviews completed in autumn of 2017. Ours is a collegial environment with collaborations across the section, school, college, university and community. Our well-defined pedagogical agenda furthers faculty and student research and practice in ways that offers mutually beneficial engagement with communities and institutions of Ohio, the nation and the world.

Our program has notable strengths in international development, transportation, sustainability and resilience, and regional equity. We are seeking a leader who can support and complement these broad interests. In terms of research and teaching, we have particular interest in scholars with expertise in one of the following areas: housing and community development, food systems, health, data analytics, land use, visualization or urban design. Required qualifications include a PhD in planning or a related field and administrative experience in a university setting. Preferred qualifications AICP credentials, experience working in an interdisciplinary environment, and administrative experience.

The Section Head of the City and Regional Planning program will work in partnership with our faculty academic program chairs, the planning students and faculty, the section heads of architecture and landscape architecture, and the school director. The City and Regional Planning section is an active participant in the Knowlton School’s vibrant learning and research atmosphere alongside programs in architecture and landscape architecture. There is dedicated administrative support for all sections within the School. Ours is a sound fiscal environment that is well-positioned within the College of Engineering and the University.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall academic leadership of the City and Regional Planning section, serving as an advocate for the planning program within the Knowlton School and College of Engineering. In addition, this person will serve as the public face of the program, publicly celebrating the efforts of the students and faculty, and engaging with our devoted alumni.
