Position Description:    

Duke Kunshan University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Chinese language (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor) in its Language and Culture Center. DKU offers an innovative, integrated and interdisciplinary liberal arts undergraduate program leading to both Duke and DKU degrees, and the Language and Culture Center provides Chinese language courses at all levels, ranging from beginning to advanced, to international students in this program. While the successful candidate for this position may teach Chinese language courses at any level, including beginning level, part of this position will involve designing and/or teaching upper level Chinese courses that have both content and language skill components. Research and publication are expected. Positions start in July 2019. 

All candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g. Chinese language teaching, applied linguistics, language education), and language teaching experience. In addition to mastery of spoken and written Chinese, candidates must also have strong English skills. Candidates for this position should have begun establishing a record of publication and conference presentation that suggests indicates strong scholarly potential. Preference will be given to candidates who:

  • speak additional languages;
  • have studied intercultural communication and have experience working in multi-cultural settings.

Further, although Duke University agrees to accept certain course work from Duke Kunshan University to be applied toward an award from Duke University, that course work may not be accepted by other colleges or universities in transfer, even if it appears on a transcript from Duke University. The decision to accept course work in transfer from any institution is made by the institution considering the acceptance of credits or course work.
