Assistant or Associate Professor Faculty Position in

the Division of Biostatistics and Health Services Research


The Department of Quantitative Health Sciences (QHS) at the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Medical School in Worcester, MA, is recruiting a faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with primary responsibility to participate in collaborative research within QHS and with the other departments of the Medical School. The academic department home will be QHS and the core collaborating faculty and research setting will be with the Quantitative Methods Core (QMC) of QHS.


The QMC currently has five full- and part-time faculty as well as nine staff (statistical analysts and data management). Since its founding in May, 2010, the QMC has conducted over 1800 consultations with over 550 researchers and contributed to over 500 grant applications. In addition, QMC faculty are Principal Investigators on their own grants as well as being involved in collaborative studies.


Applicants with interest and experience in collaborative research, as well as personal research interests in statistical methodology and/or bioinformatics, are encouraged to apply. Faculty applicants must have a PhD or equivalent degree in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, or a related field. Excellent communication skills and ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team are essential.


The new biostatistics faculty member would participate in the ongoing collaborative work of the Quantitative Methods Core, in particular, and of QHS, in general. QHS was founded in June, 2009 and currently has over 30 faculty members distributed across 4 Divisions: Biostatistics and Health Services Research; Epidemiology of Chronic Disease and Vulnerable Populations; Health Informatics and Implementation Sciences; and Preventive and Behavioral Medicine.  QHS faculty are principal investigators on active research projects totaling over $40 million in extramural funding. QHS is also the home for the doctoral program in Clinical and Population Health Research, and of the Quantitative Methods Core, the methodology consultation and service unit for the medical school. UMass received a Clinical and Translation Science Award in 2010 and the Worcester campus currently receives more than $250 million dollars in annual extramural funding.  QHS is a key driver of clinical and translational research at UMass.
