Job Title: Assistant, Associate or Full Professor – Photonics Advanced Science Research Center, City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center

The Photonics Initiative at ASRC invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank, with preference for a senior hire. The successful candidate will perform high-profile research, teaching, and guidance duties in his/her areas of expertise, and share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.


The Graduate Center is the focal point for advanced teaching and research at The City University of New York (CUNY), the nation's largest urban public university. With over 35 doctoral and master’s programs, the Graduate Center fosters pioneering research and scholarship in the arts and sciences and prepares students for careers in universities and the private, nonprofit, and government sectors. The Graduate Center’s commitment to research and scholarship for the public good is exemplified by its more than 30 centers, institutes, and initiatives, including its Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), a 200,000 square-foot facility in upper Manhattan, designed to promote collaboration among scientists in five areas of global research and innovation: nanoscience, photonics, structural biology, neuroscience, and environmental sciences.

The Photonics Initiative at ASRC seeks an outstanding faculty member with strong records of significant research accomplishments in the fields of: nanophotonics, plasmonics, nano-optics, quantum optics, optomechanics, terahertz technology, ultrafast spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, electromagnetic theory and applications, metamaterials, biophotonics, and/or other fields broadly related to photonics and electromagnetics.


A preferred candidate should have a Ph.D. degree in a photonics related area, demonstrated achievements in research scholarship, and a commitment to conducting high-level scientific research adopting interdisciplinary approaches. We encourage applications from candidates with innovative ideas, open to interdisciplinary approaches and with a demonstrated use of a wide range of experimental, theoretical and computational approaches to tackle fundamental questions in photonics. Individuals considered for these positions are expected to serve a major role in shaping an outstanding research mission at the ASRC, while fulfilling the educational mission of the New York City Public University System at CUNY.
