The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook University invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions. 

Required Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field is required at the time of employment. While the position is anticipated at the Assistant Professor level, exceptional candidates may be considered at the Associate or Full Professor level as well. The successful candidate must have the potential to establish an externally funded research program and a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching. Candidates for the rank of Associate or Full Professor should have distinguished records of research and educational activities including a strong and diverse funding history.

Preferred Qualifications: Energetic, impactful researchers, with expertise in the following areas are especially encouraged to apply:

  • Design and Manufacturing, with emphasis on robotics, mechatronics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence applications at the convergence of medicine with engineering.
  • Solid Mechanics, with emphasis on multi-scale and multi-functional modeling, data-driven approaches to materials synthesis and characterization, and/or advanced experimentation.

The Mechanical Engineering Department is part of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS), which consists of nine academic departments, as well as the Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT) and the Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center (AERTC).
