The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at Georgia Tech (GT) invites outstanding applicants for a full-time, non-tenure-track lecturer position at a level depending on qualifications. The selected candidate will serve as Director of Technical Communication for the School. Qualified candidates must possess an M.A. with significant prior relevant experience or Ph. D. in English, Rhetoric and Composition or Technical Communication or closely related discipline. Four or more years of experience in technical writing, editing and/or communications and teaching are required; university experience is preferred.

The primary responsibility for the position is to teach Technical Communication through undergraduate and graduate courses integrating instruction on written, visual and oral communications into the engineering curriculum. It will involve teaching specific communications courses or co-teaching or periodically lecturing in existing materials science and engineering courses. As the Director of Technical Communication, the person in this position will be responsible for organizing technical communication workshops, working with individual graduate students with preparations of their conference talks, articles, theses, dissertations, defenses, fellowship applications, and essays, and assisting faculty and staff with research proposals, academic publications, and newsletters.

With 38 faculty, over 360 undergraduate and 190 graduate students, MSE at GT is among the nation’s largest and is ranked by U.S. News & World Report among the top 5 undergraduate and top 10 graduate MSE programs in the U.S. Opportunities abound for campus-wide interactions within various academic units in the Colleges of Engineering, Science, and Computing, as well as Interdisciplinary Research Institutes. A group of Technical Communication professionals who work in other Schools in College of Engineering regularly meet and collaborate on best practices.

Compensation and benefits will be competitive and based on candidate’s qualifications and experience. This position includes option of nine- or twelve-month appointment. Appointments are on a year-to-year basis with no limit on number of renewal terms. Non-tenure-track faculty members are not eligible for tenure, but are promoted to senior lecturer and principal lecturer.
