Cornell Industrial Liaison

Senior Research Associate

Main Function: The Cornell Laboratory for Accelerator-based ScienceS and Education (CLASSE) Industrial Liaison will report to the Director of CLASSE and act as an interface between CLASSE and its current and potential industrial partners to create and maintain long-term positive relationships. Responsibilities:

• Advise and work closely with the Directors of Center for Bright Beams (CBB) and Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source (CHESS) and with the CBB Director of Knowledge Transfer on all matters relating to strategic partnerships with industry

• Advise and work closely with CLASSE leadership complementing the academic strength of these Cornell faculty members from the perspective of strategic engagement with industry

• Represent CBB and CHESS research activities to industry and identify potential partnerships

• Build and maintain channels of 2-way exchange of information with current and potential partner industries

• Cultivate and manage a continuous pipeline of industrial partners interested in utilizing CBB technologies

• Build supply-chains meeting NYSTAR goals for economic impact in New York State

• Develop opportunities for students and post-docs to interact with industry partners

• Work with the Center for Technology Licensing and other Cornell offices and committees to facilitate and promote technology transfer and collaboration with industry

• In coordination with CLASSE Director of Communications and Marketing, deliver value-added content, information and intellectual property through use of web media, publications, brochures, presentations

• Maintain accurate representation of the CBB and CHESS’s research to which outside industry partners may seek to connect, which includes sensitivity to IP protected discoveries

• Represent industrial partnership activities, when needed, to the public, community, and sponsors through presentations, panel discussions, conferences, meetings and written reports. Minimum Requirements: PhD or equivalent degree in a field of science or engineering. 10+ years of experience working at the interface between university and industry. Experience in Research and Development organizations. Business writing skills and effective communication, leadership, and teamwork skills are essential. Capable of adapting to the changing needs of a research environment. Able to receive direction and to communicate effectively across all research groups in the laboratory. Must work effectively and cooperatively within a team environment. The initial appointment is for two years with the possibility of extension.
