Position Description:

Post-doctoral research position in Condensed Matter Theory

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position at the Mani L. Bhaumik Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of California, Los Angeles to perform research in quantum many body theory in the group of Prof. R. Roy starting in the Fall of 2019. The position is supported by the Bhaumik Institute of Theoretical physics and allows a fair amount of flexibility in research while being the in the broad area of quantum many body physics. The successful applicant will be a part of the stimulating research environment at the Bhaumik Institute which frequently hosts workshops, seminars and conferences on a variety of topics in theoretical physics. The research is expected to align with one of the main goals of the Institute, which is to further understanding of “the fundamentals of quantum physics, including but not limited to quantum entanglement, quantum sensing, quantum computing, etc.” This position is a full-time two-year appointment, renewable for a third year, dependent on the availability of funds.

Expertise in one or more of the following areas is desirable: topological phases and other topological aspects of condensed matter systems, topological quantum computation, quantum chaos, applications of quantum field theory and quantum information theory to condensed matter systems. However candidates with a strong analytical/mathematical background in allied fields are also strongly encouraged to apply. Interested candidates may contact Prof. Roy at []( and peruse the group’s website at []( .

The start date is expected to be on or close to September 1, 2019 (to be decided by mutual consultation with the successful applicant). The deadline for applications is March 1, 2019, but applications will continue to be reviewed until the position is filled.

All individuals interested in this position must submit a CV, a research proposal, and should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent through AcademicJobsOnline or directly to []( . Questions should be directed to Prof. Roy at [](
