The Program in Latino/a Studies in the Global South at Duke University (LSGS) invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship for the academic year 2019-2020. The LSGS postdoc will teach two courses per year; pursue research; and participate in the development of public and intellectual programming in Latino/a Studies as well as the Department of Romance Studies at Duke. The successful candidate will be housed in the Department of Romance Studies and will receive a salary of $48,000, plus benefits. The postdoctoral fellowship is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year.

Start date: August 2019

Qualifications: We seek interdisciplinary scholars with a comparative, innovative, and transnational approach, grounded in U.S. Latina, Latino, and Latinx literary history.

Research interests may include any––or a combination––of the following areas: the nineteenth-century translinguistic Americas; comparative U.S. literary history; Spanish as an “American” language; print culture and the global south; historical agency and memory; ethnoracial formations; gender and sexuality; citizenship; empire; migratory flows; hemispheric studies; and related topics.

LSGS is particularly interested in scholars who move beyond traditional studies of communities bounded by a singular national origin.

Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in a relevant field by the position start date.
