The Horae Gene Therapy Center of the University of Massachusetts Medical School invites applications for a non-tenure track Research Faculty Instructor position. The research entails studying immune responses to AAV capsid and to transgene after gene transfer in large animal models and humans including 1) tracking cellular and humoral immune responses to AAV in preclinical NHPs studies and clinical trials; 2) developing new tools to study these responses; 3) developing new therapeutic strategies to overcome immune responses to AAV vectors. Applicants should have a PhD in the biomedical sciences or an MD with post graduate scientific research training and at least 5 years of research experience in the areas of molecular and cellular biology, immunology, AAV-based gene therapy in large animal models and humans. Applicants with strong skills and track records in in vivo gene transfer using AAV vectors, immunology and immune tolerance (Regulatory T cell and exhausted T cell responses), vector biodistribution, gene expression, analysis of immune responses to AAV capsid as well as transgene are required. Ability to work independently, coordinate and manage different research projects concurrently, as well as strong scientific writing, verbal, interpersonal and mentoring skills are essential. Candidates should be well organized, hard-working and highly motivated to respond to the changes within the rapidly evolving field of gene therapy research.
