Position Description:    

Berkeley Lab’s Physics Division has an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the HEP.QPR Group.  The HEP.QPR Group explores novel algorithms for charged particle pattern recognition at hadron colliders using quantum computers.  


What You Will Do:

  • Research and development of pattern recognition algorithms for particle colliders on quantum computers such as quantum annealers and universal quantum computers.

  • Conduct original research independently and in collaboration.

  • Collaborate with other members of the HEP.QPR project.

  • Prepare research papers for publication, and present research findings at seminars and conferences.

  • Report results to supervisor.

  • Identify and propose new research projects aligned with the group priorities.

  • Prepare documentation on emerging quantum algorithms.


What is Required:

  • Ph.D. in High Energy Physics, Nuclear Physics, or Computer Science.

  • Proficiency in scientific computing programming languages: python and/or c++.

  • Experience in at least one of the following areas: quantum computing, high-energy physics, software development, or high-performance computing and track reconstruction.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in presentations and in written documents.

  • Experience in presenting scientific work through formal and informal reports and presentations; relevant publication record.

Notes:

  • This is a full time, 1 year, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 4 years paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.

  • Full-time, M-F, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.

  • This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.

  • Salary will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates.
