The Department of Microbiology and Physiological Systems at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, has an opening for an Instructor with an expected start date in October 2019.

The Department of Microbiology and Physiological Systems is seeking applications for a non-tenure track Instructor position in virology and biophysics. We seek an individual with at least 4 years of postdoctoral experience studying virus entry and/or vaccine design, with strong experience working with HIV-1, Ebola, and/or flaviviruses. The successful candidate must have expertise in fluorescence microscopy and other biophysical techniques, biochemistry, as well as techniques in virology, including infectivity, neutralization, and ELISA assays. Experience with single-molecule techniques, either fluorescence or force spectroscopy, is highly advantageous.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) degree. Candidates must have demonstrated excellence and originality in research and relevant postdoctoral experience as demonstrated by a strong publication record in the required areas of expertise. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to expanding an extramurally funded research program and will integrate with a dynamic and collaborative group of faculty whose research spans diverse areas of biology including virology, microbiology, and immunology. They will join a vibrant community of biologists on the UMass Medical School campus in the Department of Microbiology and Physiological Systems, and the Immunology and Microbiology, and Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology Programs with opportunities to establish collaborations with a diverse group of researchers in several additional departments and programs.
