Position Description:    

The Department of Music seeks a guitar instructor to serve as part-time artist-in-residence, teaching guitar performance to advanced undergraduate and graduate students in the MM and DMA programs and supervising the teaching of undergraduates. Applicants should have a stellar reputation as a performer, profound understanding of his or her craft, and experience teaching advanced students. Required Qualifications: Nationaland/or international reputation as an outstanding guitarist in the entire spectrum of literature for the classical guitar. Strong background in the performance and teaching of electric guitar. Strong background in the playing and teaching of vernacular musics, including at least one of the following: jazz, Latin American popular music, popular music. Experience teaching guitar to advanced students. Preferred Qualifications: Experience performing and teaching one of the following: improvised music and historical plucked instruments. Interest in the cultural and social context of guitar in Western and non-Western music. Ability to assist in the recruiting of appropriately-skilled guitarists, with an emphasis on recruiting a diverse class.
