The School of Earth and Space Exploration (SESE) at Arizona State University invites applications for two postdoctoral scholars to work on Hubble Space Telescope Cycle 27-29 Archival Legacy project ``SKYSURF'' (AR-15810). More information about the School can be found on: https://sese.asu.edu/

SKYSURF will use HST's unique capability as absolute photometer to measure the 0.2-1.7 micron all-sky surface brightness from 57,302 ACS and WFC3 datasets in ~1100 fields, and constrain the Zodiacal Light, Kuiper Belt Objects, Diffuse Galactic Light, and the Extragalactic Background Light. SKYSURF will also make optimized panchromatic object catalogs to precisely measure cosmic variance in the galaxy counts and the discrete panchromatic EBL. The retrieval, processing and analysis of SKYSURF's data, while non-standard, will be highly automated.

Applications are invited for two postdoctoral positions to work in collaboration with Prof. Rogier Windhorst and Dr. Seth Cohen and Dr. Rolf Jansen at ASU, with SKYSURF staff at STScI and GSFC and our collaborators in Australia. The successful candidates will lead either SKYSURF's surface brightness part or its discrete object part, and their scientific publications. Candidates must be within five years from receipt of the doctoral degree.

The initial appointment is for one year with subsequent annual renewal for up to two additional years contingent upon satisfactory performance, the needs of the university, and availability of resources. The start date is Jan. 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter. This position comes with a competitive salary, funding for travel, moving expenses, and full health insurance coverage. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in astronomy, astrophysics, or closely related field by the start date, and a background in large astronomical databases. Desired qualifications include expertise in processing, analyzing and publishing large Hubble Space Telescope data sets. Demonstrated scientific programming experience in Python are greatly desired.
