The University of Massachusetts Medical School invites applications for an Associate Director of Veterinary Services in the Department of Animal Medicine. The position carries a non-tenure-track academic appointment in the Department of Pathology at the Assistant or Associate Professor Level. Rank will be commensurate with ability and experience.
The Associate Director of Veterinary Services is responsible for management and leadership of the division of Veterinary Clinical Services (VCS). The position is responsible for assuring delivery of appropriate veterinary care to UMMS research animals and technical services to investigators. The Associate director is also charged with developing and implementing a yearly operating budget for VCS, IACUC protocol and policy review, review of VCS Standard Operating Procedures, and updates to the AAALAC program Description. This position is considered essential, and as such requires weekend, holiday, and off-hours coverage as needed on a rotating basis.
Required qualifications: DVM/VMD degree and ACLAM or equivalent board certification. At least 5 years of clinical experience with most common laboratory animals including NHP and genetically engineered animals, and at least 3 years of supervisory experience with a record of progressive administrative and managerial responsibilities. Current license to practice veterinary medicine in the US. Preferred qualifications include research experience, USDA certification, BSL-3 experience, DEA license eligibility and private practice or internship experience.
