Tenure Track Position in Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering (MABE) at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK), invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in mechanical engineering. Responsibilities include teaching engineering courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, conducting research in engineering, developing externally funded research programs, and producing archival publications in leading scholarly journals. A PhD in mechanical engineering or a related field is required at the time of appointment.

 The Tickle College of Engineering is undergoing a period of substantial growth in both physical infrastructure and research expenditures as UTK seeks to become a Top 25 ranked public institution. The college presently has seven departments with 186 faculty members, 3,393 undergraduates and 1,155 graduate students. The department currently has 40 tenured/tenure track faculty members and enrolls 1,331 undergraduate and 182 graduate students. Research expenditures in the department exceed $15M per year. The City of Knoxville is a hidden gem with a beautiful and walkable downtown, varied nightlife, active neighborhoods, and eclectic shopping and restaurants. UT is located within easy driving distance to Asheville, Nashville, Atlanta, and the Great Smoky Mountains.

 This position is open to candidates in all research areas of Mechanical Engineering.  The department has established strong cores in advanced manufacturing of metals and composites, fracture mechanics, structures and vibrations, robotics, hypersonics autonomous control, fluid mechanics, orthopedics, biomechanics, and medical imaging. The department has a close working relationship with the nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The successful candidate will have extensive opportunities to collaborate with researchers at ORNL.

Salary is commensurate with the position and experience of the applicant.
