The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Duke University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position to begin in Fall 2020. The position is primarily at the junior level, and graduating students, postdocs, or junior faculty are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have a well-demonstrated background, PhD or equivalent degree in ECE or related area, and contributions both in AI (in its broader definition) and health, and their combination. This position is part of the broad initiative at Duke University and Duke Health, with the goal to make our leadership in AI, health, and their intersection, even stronger. Duke has unique strengths in AI, health, and their collaboration; multiple AI tools developed by our engineering faculty are in daily use in Duke Health and beyond, including FDA cleared AI-based technologies. Successful candidates should be committed to high quality scholarly activities including the development of a vibrant research program supported by external funding, and active participation in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Duke faculty and student community are currently very diverse and we are strongly committed to enhancing this diversity. Thus candidates from under-represented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Duke encourages interdisciplinary collaboration within and between departments (joint and courtesy appointments are very standard), as well as entrepreneurial activities, which serve to broaden the societal impact of its research and teaching. A tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated, but an appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level with tenure may be considered for exceptionally qualified applicants.
