The Department of Kinesiology at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor.

We are pleased to continue these investments and initiatives by inviting applications for a full-time (9-month appointment, 50% research and 50% teaching/administration/service) tenure-track faculty position in the Professional Athletic Training Program in the Department of Kinesiology at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The Department of Kinesiology in the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources is an exciting interdisciplinary department and regarded as one of the best in the country. The faculty includes recognized leaders in the fields of athletic training, physical therapy, and exercise science. With 20 faculty members, 100 undergraduate students, and over 120 graduate students, the department is committed to promoting lifelong health and wellness through physical activity. Current research agendas focus on mitigating stress during exercise, optimizing child development, studying exercise related interventions to improve chronic disease management, preventing and managing sport-related injuries and illnesses. The Department of Kinesiology is also home to the internationally recognized Korey Stringer Institute ( that works to provide research, education, advocacy and consultation to maximize performance, optimize safety and prevent sudden death for the athlete, warfighter and laborer.


Establish a nationally-recognized and externally-funded research program; produce high impact, high-quality publications; teach courses within the Professional Athletic Training Program in the Department of Kinesiology; provide academic and professional service to the Department of Kinesiology, College of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources, University of Connecticut and the community. In the area of teaching, the successful candidate will share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the graduate level, development of innovative courses and mentoring of students in research, outreach and professional development. Successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their research, teaching, and/or public engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience; and integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools. The successful candidate will also serve as the Clinical Education Coordinator of the Professional Athletic Training Program.


  • Earned Ph.D. in rehabilitation science or related field
  • Contemporary expertise in the field of athletic training
  • Certification and good standing with the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer
  • Previous clinical practice as an athletic trainer
  • Previous teaching responsibilities within an athletic training education program
  • Previous experience as a preceptor for athletic training students
  • Eligible for obtaining licensure, or currently licensed in the state of Connecticut as an athletic trainer
  • Demonstrated potential in establishing a successful research and scholarship program
  • A deep commitment to promoting diversity through their academic and research programs


  • Record of interprofessional collaboration in teaching/learning
  • Previous experience as Clinical Education Coordinator of an athletic training program
  • A record of externally-funded scholarship
  • Experience mentoring graduate students in pursuit of academic graduate degrees.


This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2020. The successful candidate’s academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. This position will serve as the Clinical Education Coordinator for the Athletic Training Masters Level Program. Salary and start-up package will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
