Position Description:    

The College of Arts & Sciences Writing Program at Boston University expects to hire a Lecturer in ESL Writing to begin in the fall of 2020. Responsibilities include teaching three first-year writing seminars to international students per semester, with 15-16 students each, and participating in program service and professional-development activities. The initial term of appointment is two years, with the possibility of renewal.

The Writing Program is an independent instructional unit with nearly fifty full-time Lecturers. Our primary responsibility is to offer the sequence of writing seminars through which BU undergraduates satisfy their writing requirements. We seek candidates who demonstrate experience in and a commitment to teaching writing to a diverse student population. BU’s Class of 2023 includes 24% international students, 20% underrepresented minority students, and 17% Pell-eligible students; 46% of our students receive some form of financial aid. We welcome applicants with the following qualifications: Ph.D. (preferred), M.A. in TESOL, Second Language Writing, Applied Linguistics, Rhetoric and Composition, or a closely related field; successful experience teaching undergraduate writing, especially to ESL/multilingual students.
