The Department of Educational Psychology in the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut invites applications and nominations for a non-tenure track nine-month Assistant Clinical Professor of Special Education beginning in August 2020. The successful candidate will join a dynamic program and department and will be expected to support the teacher education program, including teaching courses, leading seminars, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, cultivating and sustaining relationships at clinical sites, and being an active member of the department.

The successful candidate will work with the Special Education faculty to support the Neag School’s Teacher Education Program which includes the Integrated Bachelors/Master’s Program (IBM) which is located at UConn’s main Storrs campus and the Teacher Certificate Program for College Graduates (TCPCG) which is located at UConn’s Hartford, Avery Point, and Waterbury campuses. This includes teaching courses in Special Education, leading clinical seminars, and mentoring/advising undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate will also work with stakeholders to sustain and build relationships with partner schools, develop internships and clinical placements, and engage in supervision. The successful candidate will also engage with the faculty in the program’s efforts to connect and translate ongoing research into effective practice.


  • Completed Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Special Education or related area, at time of appointment; and
  • Applied school-based experience in K-12 and/or postsecondary settings 


  • Experience teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Special Education
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a range of education stakeholders, including university colleagues, teachers, principals, school leaders, and prospective teachers.
  • Experience supervising undergraduate and/or graduate students engaged in clinical and/or research experiences.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices in special education and experience supporting the implementation of evidence-based practices in applied settings.
  • Content expertise in one or more of the following areas: assessment, law and policy in special education, literacy, behavioral supports, secondary-to-postsecondary transition.
  • Applied school-based experience working in K-12 settings supporting students with disabilities. 


This is a full-time, 9-month position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2020. The successful candidate’s academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. Faculty may also be asked to teach and/or support students at UConn’s regional campuses as part of their ordinary workload. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
