Duke University Dance Program Position announcement for Somatics in Dance course

Position: part-time non-regular rank instructor for a course on Somatics in Dance

Start date: January 1 to May 30, 2020

Position description: The Duke University Program in Dance seeks an outstanding instructor with expertise in Somatics in Dance. Candidates with teaching/research experience that demonstrates work with a diverse student population will be valued.

Qualifications: MFA in Dance and/or Ph.D. with significant experience in dance artistry required. Familiarity with university teaching in an undergraduate/graduate dance program will be preferred.

Responsibilities: The new hire will teach the following full credit course: The course will examine Somatics as an ethical dance education designed to train reflective dancers. The course will focus on the history of Somatics and its scientific and psychosocial underpinnings in forming a critique around current societal issues and its evolving impact on dance training.

The Duke University Dance Program currently offers an MFA, a BA and a minor in Dance. The Dance Program is an independent unit within the University’s School of Arts and Sciences.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications.
