Reporting to the Director of the Entrepreneurship Law Clinic at Cornell Law School, the Fellow will support the strategic growth and day-to-day activities of Cornell Law’s first transactional clinic. The Entrepreneurship Law Clinic provides legal representation to Ithaca-area start-ups and entrepreneurs in areas including corporate formation and governance, employment, fundraising, intellectual property protection, immigration and commercial contracts. The Clinic also works closely with departments and individuals around Cornell University who support and promote entrepreneurship at Cornell.

The Fellow’s responsibilities will include the following:
  • Supervise students in the Clinic, including feedback, training and mentoring.
  • Manage ongoing client engagements, ensuring that the work is done in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with the organization and teaching of the Clinic, focusing on both substantive business law and legal skills such as contract drafting and client relations.
  • Develop resources to support the Clinic’s engagement with the local community, including workshops, presentations and standard forms.
  • Participate in defining the focus of the Clinic’s work, including by responding to inquiries from potential clients and selecting clients to work with the Clinic.
  • Help maintain relationships with law firms and other organizations that support the Clinic.
  • Assist in managing the financial resources for the program, including monitoring financial activities and transactions.
This is a full-time position for a two-year term, and is benefits eligible. Reappointment for an additional one-year term is possible based on performance and funding availability. The successful candidate will be expected to start between June 1 and June 15, 2020.

Must be admitted to practice law in the State of New York. A successful candidate must have relevant practice experience, excellent client-management skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced law practice environment, and a track record of forming positive professional relationships. Prior teaching experience is not necessary, although a demonstrated commitment to teaching is helpful.
