The Department of Sociology in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor. Area of specialization is open, although preference will be given to applicants whose research and teaching interests complement the department’s strengths in work and inequality, population and health, crime and community, political sociology, or race, class, and gender. We seek candidates who will maintain active programs of research, seek external funding, contribute to both graduate and undergraduate teaching, and provide service to the department and the profession.


Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in sociology or a related field by the start of employment, and present evidence of excellence in teaching and research. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
