Christos Yessios Digital Fabrication Associate or Full Professor of Architecture

The Architecture Section of the Knowlton School at The Ohio State University is seeking candidates at the Associate of Full level for a tenure-track position in architecture with innovative research in emerging digital technologies in design, and will also consider extraordinary candidates at the Assistant level. This endowed position is supported by the Christos Yessios Fund. We aim to hire those who show strong potential for making a significant contribution to design research through scholarship, creative design practices, and/or criticism; and for engendering enthusiasm in the studio and classroom.

The responsibilities of the position include general instructional duties at all levels of the curriculum, undergraduate and graduate, and in all classroom environments (studio, lecture, and seminar) as well as full participation in faculty committee and service assignments. The Yessios Professor will take an active role in shaping digital design and fabrication pedagogy and research at Knowlton.

Candidates with a research focus related to emerging digital fabrication tools and related technologies and their implications or contemporary design are encouraged to apply, and each application will receive full consideration. A wide range of topics for study will be considered, with preference to those which leverage the School’s resources, especially investigations that focus on computer-controlled fabrication techniques and research in technology, digital media, and material assemblies.

The Knowlton School

Housed in Mack Scogin/Merril Elam’s award-winning building on Ohio State University’s Columbus Campus, The Knowlton School of Architecture fosters a singular environment for innovative design research and critical inquiry. Operating within the College of Engineering, the Knowlton School’s three sections, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and City and Regional Planning enjoy the benefits of a large research institution including collaborative relationships with the Wexner Center for the Arts and the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design. Architecture has approximately 300 students, 14 full-time and 20 auxiliary faculty members.

An ongoing catalogue of special programs, including The Baumer Visiting Professorship, the LeFevre Emerging Practitioner Fellowship, and a renowned lecture series and gallery exhibitions series continuously inspire intellectual inquiry of the Architecture School, and seek to engage all three disciplines beyond their boundaries. The section’s publications include the Source Books in Architecture series.  The region’s many cities provide a variety of research opportunities for much of the School’s scholarship and design studios.  The Ohio State University is situated in Columbus, Ohio, the prosperous center of a diverse population of nearly 2 million people, which offers many cultural opportunities, good schools, pleasant neighborhoods, and significant economic growth.

All applicants must have a Master’s degree, a PhD or an equivalent degree in Architecture or a related area; professional and/or teaching experience is strongly encouraged. Preferred qualifications include evidence of significant research/creative work, and the ability to develop and teach courses that develop core skills and specialties in architectural design.
