The Department of Physics at Chiba University invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in the area of experimental particle  astrophysics, multi-messenger astronomy, or particle physics. For exceptional candidates, appointments at a more senior level may be considered. Chiba University has one of the world-leading research groups on high energy neutrino astronomy in the IceCube Neutrino Observatory ( The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent, internationally recognized research program and to collaborate effectively with the existing neutrino astrophysics group. We are particularly interested in candidates with capability to expand the multi-messenger astronomy or the particle physics programs established by IceCube. The successful candidate is strongly encouraged to develop an external proposal to strengthen Chiba's research program with opportunities for close collaboration with the IceCube observatory.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in physics or a closely related field and have postdoctoral experience at the time of appointment.  The successful candidate can also have access to the data from the IceCube Observatory to enhance her/his research program but an external proposal independent from the IceCube Collaboration is strongly encouraged. The review of applications will begin April 1st, 2020. However, applications will be accepted until the position is filled.  Interested candidates should send a cover letter, Curriculum Vitae,  list of publications, a statement of research plans, and arrange to have at least two letters of reference sent electronically to:
