Position Description: |
The Particle and Astroparticle Physics Division at the Max-Planck-Institut fuer Kernphysik (MPIK) invites applications for PhD positions in experimental physics. The division has strong or leading roles in various experiments in neutrino physics (CONUS, GERDA/LEGEND200, STEREO) and direct dark matter detection experiments (XENON1T, XENONnT, DARWIN). In addition we perform various R&D activities for future experiments. Further information can be found at http://www.mpi-hd.mpg.de/lin/ The division develops and operates some of the worlds most sensitive devices for trace impurity analysis. In the near future major upgrades are planned for our ultra-low background Germanium spectrometers (GeMPIs) as well as our rare gas mass spectrometer (RGMS) with ppq (parts per quadrillion) sensitivity. The successful candidates will significantly contribute to these developments, which are crucial for the quality control of current and next generation astroparticle physics experiments, where extremely low background levels must be achieved. The tasks comprises research and development for improved low background devices and includes involvement in experiments where these devices are used. We are offering an interesting work area in an international environment at the forefront of fundamental physics research. Candidates should have a master's degree in physics, ideally with a solid background in particle or astro-particle physics. Applications should submit a curriculum vitae, a description of research experience and two recommendation letters. Applications should be submitted by October 16, 2020. |
